Neither of us played for our high school teams or play in adult recreational sports leagues. But both of us love to watch a good game. Whether its a minor league baseball game (Did I mention we both love a good hot dog? But who doesn't right?). Or a playoff NFL® game. I can honestly say we both love sports.
Our tastes in sports differ a little. Unlike my wife, I like hockey, enjoy watching college baseball and softball on the tube and absolutely go nuts for college basketball. My wife on the other hand likes professional boxing way more than I. And if Floyd Mayweather Jr. ever fought anyone of substance, she would like nothing more than to catch a fight live.
But we do have a common ground in sports: We both like the Big 3 American sports (MLB®, NBA® and NFL®). These sports we share together and they were the impetus behind us starting our new journey: Seeing a game at every stadium!
The Journey
A few months back my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday. Instead of asking for a new electronic gadget or a new suit accessory I asked for a trip to a baseball game. Since we live on the east coast there are a number of teams to choose from and we settled on the Pittsburgh Pirates. I had heard PNC Park was a great park and was more than happy when she picked that location. And that was the event that started our journey.
The Rules
Our quest to attend every stadium has rules.
- We will go to a game at every stadium. Duplicates are definitely allowed. Who would ever get tired of seeing the Yankees play???
- We must root for opposing teams EXCEPT
- if ONE of the teams is our favorite team. Then we BOTH root for that team.
- if BOTH of our favorite teams are playing. Then we root for our favorite teams and pray that we are able to speak to each other after the game.
- if rooting for the away team will pose as a health risk.
- Specialty games (All Star Games or the Super Bowl) may or may not count. It's our call.
- Most importantly the only games that count for this journey are the ones we do together.
Yes I know this challenge is a tall order. Each league has 30+ teams. But its a fun one and one that I think we will have a great time attempting to accomplish. Of course we will go to other sports games. Maybe I will get my wife to go to a hockey match. Maybe we will go to our local arena football team's game. Or maybe we will go to a college game. Who knows where this journey will lead us. Maybe, just maybe, we will be visiting a stadium near you!
